Events diary:

The calender below shows forthcoming society events and other events related to mining history that may be of interest.  You can click on individual days/events on the calender to retrieve further details.  If you are the organiser or promoter of a (not-for-profit) event that you would like listed here, please send details through to the webmaster - details are on the contact us page.

Some events, such as underground meets or surface walks, can be liable to last-minute changes due to weather conditions, or the ability to gain permission for access/parking/etc.  Where possible we try to keep this diary up-to-date, so it is worth double-checking meet details here prior to setting out!

Leader: John Barnatt.

All welcome - no pre-booking required. Meet at 7.00pm on the road between Great Hucklow and Windmill, near the top of the access road to Milldam Mine (grid ref: SK174779).

A gentle 3 mile summer evening walk along one of the most important lead veins in the Peak District. We will first visit High Rake Mine to see the conserved remains, which was the site of a major PDMHS excavation project (directed by John himself) from 2000-8.
Looking down the shaft of High Rake Mine on a PDMHS walk
We will look at the remains of the buildings (including two engine houses!) and the ore processing areas, and we also have a massive shaft for you to peer down as well.

We will then head up Tideslow Rake, which has been mined since at least the C13th, looking at various well-preserved features at this Scheduled Monument. You can see the original Scheduling Document here.
We will return back down to our starting point along the rake. Optional drink in a local pub afterwards.
